What is United Airlines Rebooking Policy?

A United passenger may require rebooking their flight once their original reservation is affected. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, technical issues, etc., United may change or even cancel your booking. This can result in the passenger having to request rebooking on another flight. The second scenario is when the passenger themselves won’t be able to make their trip on the originally booked flight and wish to get rebooked on another flight.

United Airlines Rebooking Policy varies under both the above-stated circumstances. The Rebooking guidelines are listed below:

Rebooking Policy When United Canceled/Changed Your Flight

  • According to the information provided on the United Airlines’ website, if the departure time or arrival time of your scheduled flight has changed, United shall help you get rebooked on another flight.
  • The origin and destination airports remain unchanged when a passenger is rebooked on another United flight.
  • If your itinerary includes a connecting flight, United Airlines shall allow you to choose a different connecting airport during the rebooking process.
  • Passengers shall only be rebooked on flights that are operated by United Airlines or United Express partners.
  • If United Airlines has automatically rebooked you on another flight that doesn’t suit your travel needs, you can request a refund if:
    • The rebooking results in your scheduled departure and arrival time getting changed significantly.
    • The rebooking is done in a travel class different from the original booking.

Policy When Passenger Requests Rebooking

  • If your travel plans change and you wish to fly on another date, you can request rebooking to another flight to meet your travel requirements.
  • United Airlines no longer charges any rebooking or flight change fee for most Economy and Premium Economy tickets.
  • United’s Basic Economy tickets are not eligible for rebooking.
  • If you request rebooking on a flight with no seats available, the airline shall put you on Standby.
  • When rebooking a flight, the departure airport, destination airport, and the cabin class of the original booking shall remain unchanged.
  • For tickets booked through a travel agent, rebooking must be requested directly through the third-party service.

What is United Airlines Rebooking Fee?

If your original flight is canceled or changed, United Airlines shall rebook you on another flight free of cost. If the rebooking is requested by the passenger, then also United Airlines won’t charge a rebooking fee as long as your flight hasn’t already departed.

Although United Airlines has a zero rebooking fee policy, you will still be required to pay the fare difference if the rebooking is requested by you and is not a result of schedule changes implemented by United Airlines.

Note: United Airlines will ask you to pay a penalty for rebooking a missed flight.

United Airlines Same Day Rebooking

United Airlines allows passengers to rebook a flight on the departure day itself. This practice is referred to as a Same Day Flight Change or Rebooking. There are times when a passenger when wish to board an earlier flight on the departure day itself. In such a scenario, you must contact United’s staff and request the Same Day Rebooking at the airport itself. If there are no seats available on the earlier flight, United shall put you on their Standby List. Once a flight seat gets vacant, United Airlines shall confirm your rebooking.

Note: United Airlines charges no Same Day Flight Change Fee.

Can I get a refund if United Airlines changes my flight?

If United Airlines changed your flight to another date and the flight change doesn’t suit your travel plans, you can ask the airline for a full refund. According to United’s Refund Policy, there must be a significant change in the departure and arrival times of your flight in order to be eligible for a refund. Most major airlines tend to issue a full refund if the passenger’s flight is delayed by 3 hours or more.

You can also ask for a refund if the airline has rebooked you in a different cabin class from the originally booked flight.
